General information about the role of the person
The Child Friendly Space (CFS) Manager will be responsible for organizing the set-up, running and monitoring of PIN-supported CFSs in Ukraine. S/he will be responsible for the daily management of CFS, ensuring successful and high quality implementation of activities and the recording and promotion of good practices and lessons learned for technical improvement. The CFS Manager is responsible for the supervision of, and support to, facilitators working in the CFS, as well as ensuring the safety and psychosocial wellbeing of children in the CFS. Engagement and leadership of communities (including children) in all phases of the project cycle is key to this role – all below listed tasks should be done in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, wherever possible.
Specific duties and responsibilities
Management
- Support the collection and analysis of needs assessment data in a manner that is participatory and community-led (i.e. meet stakeholders to inform them about plans, engage them in the process to identify needs and the design of activities).
- Support the design of an approach for the set-up of CFS in collective centres
- Plan and procure all necessary equipment and materials for the successful set-up of CFS, including regular top-ups as needed.
- Lead the process to recruit community volunteers as CFS Facilitators.
- Responsible for administrative and HR matters, including leave and performance evaluation of any staff under his/her supervision;
- Identify capacity building needs of centre staff, and design and deliver trainings to CFS staff and provide ongoing professional development and mentoring support, as needed (i.e. give regular feedback to facilitators and work with them to identify new topics and approaches to supporting the unique needs of participating children).
- Work with Facilitators to set schedules for daily/weekly activities for children and youth.
- Ensure communication with communities, including posting of activity schedules, rules and regulations and Code of Conduct in the CFS for all to see.
- Organize and facilitate community information sessions, meetings and open days.
- Ensure that PSS, recreational and non-formal educational activities are conducted according to the agreed plan of action and schedule.
- Supervise facilitators and other support staff in the day-to-day running of the CFS.
- Ensure allocated budget is utilized effectively and in line with the approved budget.
- Conduct regular visits to CFS to collect feedback, check-in on changing needs and monitor activities.
Child Protection and Safeguarding
- Ensure Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action are adhered to throughout all CFS activities.
- Ensure all children and youth are safe from harm and report any possible risks in the appropriate manner immediately.
- Conduct quarterly Protection Risk Analysis (PRA) to inform safe programming in the CFS.
- Responsible for immediately reporting any potential Protection concerns to the line manager.
- Ensure that all CFS staff, including volunteers, understand and abide by the signed CoC and PIN policies (including Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and Child Protection policies)
Coordination and Communication
- Serve as the main PIN point of contact for community members, facilitators, caregivers and children.
- Represent PIN in coordination fora, including the Education Cluster, Child Protection sub-cluster, MHPSS Working Group and Ministry of Education and Science (MoES) working groups.
Required background and competences
- Minimum required education – University degree in education, psychology, pedagogy, social work or relevant (obligatory);
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in implementing child protection programs, preferably in the management of CFS, delivery of Psychosocial support (PSS) activities or education support in humanitarian or development settings or similar (essential);
- Demonstrated understanding of working with children, particularly vulnerable children (essential)
- Experience in managing referral processes (desired)
- Understanding of psychological first aid (essential)
- Previous experience in working with children with special needs (desired);
- Strong understanding of humanitarian project cycle management (essential);
- Familiarity with the humanitarian context affecting Ukrainian communities (essential);
- Experience of working for an international humanitarian organization (desired);
- Ability to read and write in English and Ukrainian language(s) (essential)
- Experience in report writing (desired);
- Previous experience supervising and coordinating a team (desired)
- Previous experience in capacity building and mentoring of staff (desired)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google software (essential)
